About Sam Slatcher

Sam Slatcher is a musician, singer-songwriter and community arts facilitator. Sam is passionate about engaging different communities in the process of storytelling through songwriting. His honest and reflective songwriting, delivered with a calming and delicate voice captures the warmth of humanity and a longing for peace and justice. ​​

Since 2017, Sam has been performing live across the North of England and launched his debut EP at his first headline gig at Durham City Theatre in April 2018. Sam launched his first full album 'Stories of Sanctuary' to a sold-out audience at Durham Cathedral in Oct 2018 and in 2019 toured the Stories of Sanctuary project with acclaimed viola player Raghad Haddad from the National Syrian Orchestra across the UK. Sam has worked with/supported various artists including Steve Pledger, Joe Solo, Harri Endersby, Joseph Hammill and Gareth Davies-Jones. ​

In December 2018, Sam launched Citizen Songwriters a social enterprise set up to bring communities together through creative songwriting. Through Citizen Songwriters, Sam has worked with various communities to curate storytelling project, helping people share the stories that matter to them through song. Citizen Songwriters grew out of an Arts Council-funded project called Stories of Sanctuary which brought together people from refugee and other backgrounds seeking sanctuary in the North East, through creating songs about seeking peace and sanctuary for war and conflict.
